I really enjoyed Treeless Mountain, and am always amazed at how foreign films that do not use a soundtrack or special effects can carry a film in a classic style and make it work. The timing was perfect, as every time I had the thought, "I get the idea" the scene moved into a new sub-plot, so that it became a natural progression from one experience to the next.

Never did I feel as if I were being hit over the head with public service messages. In fact, I loved that the movie expressed not only the triumph of human persistence and perseverance but also subtly how people can be affected emotionally by what we say and how we treat each other in everyday situations.
