Most of us have seen endless commercials about how the medications they are selling can solve everything in your life. It is true in emergency situations, some medications are needed to help you. However, if you are taking 10+ pills per day, you might want to consider you are over medicated. I have seen many clients complaining of aches and pains throughout their bodies, headaches, stiffness, and sluggishness. When I have referred to doctors, not pill pushers, many were found to have medications that were counteracting each other and literally causing even more problems than they had before. Your body needs more alternative medicine. If you have never tried accupuncture, massage, exercise, stretching, natural supplements, and a healthy diet, NOW may be a good time to try it. Your doctor may only know of pills as the only help for you as they are not trained in Alternative medicines. Be curious and you may find a better alternative for your life. My mother takes 10 or so pills a day, it seems that some are to counter-act the effects of others. She is so convinced that they are necessary that even a talking about them is difficult.

I believe we need a national discussion on the direction of our health care system. There is no incentive for doctors to help with wellness or preventative medicine. Drug companies have no incentive to find or research inexpensive remedies when the latest block buster drug is so lucrative. I do not begrudge the drug companies their profits, only through very expensive research are life saving drugs found. However we need to find a way to break the cycle of the over prescription of drugs due to pressure by drug companies, doctors trained only in treatment not prevention, and the lawyers that prey on the whole system.

I think forums and websites like this are a place to start.

I believe you are correct. Remember, drug comapanies sponsor many of the medical programs that train our doctors and physical therapist. Our insurance companies only want to cover medical expenses that are performed by doctors and physical therapist. I understand where they are coming from, strictly profit. However, we the people, are the driving force in this healthcare debate. Believe it not, most doctors are beginning to understand exactly what you are talking about. Unfortunately, patients get upset when a physician doesn't respond with drugs. We have to take responsibilty for our eatiing habits and lifestyle.
