Good Morning!
Today is my birthday, so I would like to extend my love and appreciation to everyone “out there” who reads these lessons and who support me in my spiritual seeking through A Course in Miracles. Today’s lesson is a big step forward in the discussion of the last few days in which we realize that we are not victims of the world we see and that the world is an effect of us, not the other way around. Today’s big step is that “There is another way of looking at the world”. This is huge. We can just change our minds! This changing of our minds creates a shift in perception that once done can never be undone. When we experience a shift in perception about something that we thought was rock solid one way and then discover that there is truly another way of looking at the rock solid and seeing something else, we can never think in such black and white terms again. It is similar to the old adage that you can’t be just a “little” pregnant.

Today’s lesson in 3:1 tells us that “The shorter exercise periods should be as frequent as possible.” This is very important. In fact, if you can go around all day long and apply the idea that “There is another way of looking at this”, you will be amazed at what comes up for you. Your ego will be challenged big time and may actually retaliate against you in subtle ways, but just look at it and let it go for the smokescreen that it is.

The truly helpful are invulnerable, because they are not protecting their egos and so nothing can hurt them……The truly helpful are God’s miracle workers, whom I direct until we are all united in the joy of the Kingdom.” T.4.VII.8:3, 7

I ask God today to show me how to be truly helpful. And so it is done.

Joan

Happy Birthday, Joan. Thanks for doing all that you do.

For me, these shorter exercise periods are vital. Not only do they allow me to see "another way of looking" at things but they remind me that I actually have a choice. The decision maker in my mind has a choice of whether to choose the ego or the Holy Spirit as a teacher. It also takes the lessons out of the realm of intellectual exercises and into the "real" world. There is another way of looking at this.
