Good Morning!
Today’s lesson is asking something new from us. We are told that the first 19 lessons have been quite easy and now we are being asked to step up our level of commitment to daily practice. This lesson attempts to introduce structure to our studies. We are asked to remind ourselves throughout the day that we are “determined to see”. This implies, of course, that we do not see now, and want the shift to occur from the way we see now, to see with true vision – the vision of God.

I like the word “determined”. It implies true intent, a commitment, a desire to excel. At least that is what it means to me. The sentence that stands out to me is: Your decision to see is all that vision requires. This, to me, is what free will is all about. We have the free will to make the decision to see. We have the free will to choose to remember that we are at one with God.

The lesson is asking us to repeat today’s idea at least twice an hour today. This requires some effort on our part, doesn’t it! Do not beat yourself up if you forget, but the lesson admonishes us to “make a real effort to remember”. This lesson is where many students drop out. See what you can make of it for yourself and ask yourself whether it is worth your time and effort. Maybe it will be this year, maybe not. Remember, the introduction to A Course in Miracles states: This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.

So far there has been no attempt to convince me that I am wrong or even to convince me to believe these concepts. All I have been asked to do is go along. It doesn't matter whether I believe in this process or not. Consequently, it's important at this point not to try to prove this process wrong either. My only reason for going through this reversal of thinking is because of me. Because I will feel better when I do.

The biggest challenge in this lesson is realizing how much I do not want to see. Giving up my perceptions about being right (no matter how painful that existence is) is still threatening to my self image. Because my selfishness creates my existence. Whatever I see is what I want to see. This is my opportunity to see differently. I'm not quite there yet.
