Good Morning!
Today’s lesson deals with what the Course calls “form”. The body’s eyes see only form, which means the eyes are acting as a camera which merely captures the image that began as a thought in the mind and was projected outward. Form only exists here in the world in which we think we are; it does not exist at the level of God.  The eyes are not really capable of what the Course calls True Vision, which is of God. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, today we are dealing only with what the body’s eyes actually “see”, which is not seeing at all, but rather “illusioning” (I’m not sure that’s even a word, sorry).

There is a great section in the Text which explains today’s lesson in better detail. It is in Chapter 22 of A Course in Miracles, Section III, paragraphs 4 through 7. Please read it if you can. And if any of you do not have the text and would like to know what passages I am talking about, please email me and I will be glad to cut and paste these passages to you personally.  (Jerry quoted from this section yesterday in his post.  You beat me to the punch, Jerry!)

This lesson mentions “light episodes”. Has anyone on the forum ever experienced this? It is an interesting phenomenon but not necessary for enlightenment. Do not be concerned if this has not happened to you as yet. True perception is available to all.

Two things.

If any of you wants a quick access to ACIM text while visiting our discussion group on the Internet, go to http://home.att.net/~acim/ACIM-text-contents.html

The "light episodes."  I had/have them.  Coming from a "Buddhistic school," I don't pay much attention to them, neither do anything to facilitate them.  I've always seen them as a kind of aura, with the objects sometimes becoming almost translucent.  Does it mean I think I see in a "clearer" way?  Not at all.  Buddhism always stated that this type of phenomena, or even, at the highest levels of realizations, any special powers should actually be discarded as obstacles on the path.  And this is how I approach it these days..

William James said "Many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." At a fundamental level that is true of the ego. The biggest problem is that we think we can think.

Two lines from the section we read on Tuesday speak to this.

"Salvation can be seen as nothing more than escape from concepts. It does not concern itself with content of the mind, but with the simple statement that it thinks." (T-31.V.14:3-4)

I don't think the light episodes are necessarily literal but refers to the light of understanding that I am merely seeing a projection of a thought of separation.  It's when the light goes on in my mind and I suddenly recognize what I'm "seeing" really isn't there.

Thanks to Irek (Aka Alien) and Jerry for your "thoughts".  And thanks Irek for that link to the Text.  I had not seen that one before.  I think I will post that in the Instructions Thread on Jan 1, so that newcomers can find it.

I agree with both of you about the light episodes.  While I have seen fuzzy rings of light and auras around people and objects, I never really thought they were signs that I was enlightened.  It's just another concept, which is what we studied last Tues evening in our group.  It's funny but tomorrow's lesson (Jan 16) mentions the concept of "salvation" for the first time and here you've given us a definition of it, Jerry, from the text.  Thank you!

You're welcome. I love this definition because the word "salvation" can carry a such heavy connotation. It conjures up this image of the heavens opening up and being saved by some powerful external force. Anything that demystifies and simplifies is a big step in the right direction for me.
